Mary Barton : un projet d'adaptation

Je viens de découvrir avec joie (et désarrois : je n'ai pas encore lu le livre) que la BBC projetterait d'adapter le roman Mary Barton d'Elizabeth Gaskell. Il y a très peu d'informations pour le moment, mais d'après cet article du Guardian Heidi Thomas, scénariste de l'adaptation de Cranford mais aussi de la série Call the Midwife qui a eu un énorme succès au Royaume-Uni, serait entrain de plancher sur le premier épisode pour BBC Wales.

"I think it is important the working classes have their story told and history brought to life. I am keen to see that on screen. The novel is all about the rights of workers, how they organise, the start of trade unions, the life experiences of the very poor. It will shine a light on where we came from, compared to how we live now. It is important not just to make period dramas which are visually appealing.

"This is close to my heart. I do like a muscular, Victorian novel, something heavyweight.'

J'espère que nous aurons très vite de nouvelles informations, car ça promet d'être intéressant.
